VFD Support Specialist II

About the role

ABB is hiring a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) Support Specialist II in New Berlin, Wisconsin, reporting to the Technical Support Team Lead. The specialist provides technical support to ABB customers, end users, the sales channel, product management teams and ABB Drive Services, covering VFDs, 3-phase power, system control wiring and connectivity. The work model is hybrid in New Berlin, Wisconsin, with remote work available in the United States.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support by phone and email for common problems with low-voltage VFDs, helping customers and field technicians with commissioning, troubleshooting and warranty evaluations.
• Assist customers with drive programming, parameter configuration, communication and integration with control systems.
• Collaborate with engineering, field service, sales and product teams to resolve complex technical issues.
• Work with the warranty team to start warranty replacements and labor authorizations.
• Maintain case documentation, solutions and best practices in Salesforce Case Management and other tools.
• Stay current with VFD technologies, software updates and industry trends.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree and 4 years of relevant electrical or technical experience, or an associate's degree and 6 years, or a high school diploma/GED and 8 years.
• Required knowledge of how variable frequency drives work and a firm understanding of electricity principles applied to troubleshooting.
• Ability to handle customer inquiries and communicate effectively in English, spoken and written; computer literate.
• US work authorization required.
• Preferred: knowledge of motors, control system wiring and communication protocols (Modbus, BACnet), and prior phone troubleshooting experience.
