VFD Technical Support Specialist

About the role

ABB is hiring a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) Support Specialist for its Motion Drive Products division. The role reports to the Technical Support Team Lead and works remotely from the United States, providing technical support to ABB customers, end users, the sales channel, product management teams and ABB Drive Services. It covers VFDs, 3-phase power, system control wiring and connectivity.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support by phone and email for common problems with low-voltage VFDs, helping customers and field technicians with commissioning, troubleshooting and warranty evaluations.
• Assist customers with drive programming, parameter configuration, communication and integration with control systems.
• Collaborate with engineering, field service, sales and product teams to resolve complex technical issues.
• Work with the warranty team to start warranty replacements and labor authorizations.
• Maintain case documentation, solutions and best practices in Salesforce Case Management and other tools.
• Stay current with VFD technologies, software updates and industry trends.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree and 2 years of relevant electrical or technical experience, or an associate's degree and 4 years, or a high school diploma/GED and 6 years.
• Knowledge of how variable frequency drives work (required).
• Firm understanding of electricity principles and ability to troubleshoot drives.
• Effective verbal and written English and computer literacy.
• US work authorization.

Preferred qualifications

• Knowledge of or experience with motors and control system wiring and communication protocols such as Modbus and BACnet.
• Experience troubleshooting a technical product over the phone.
