UX Lead / Senior Product Designer – Modeling & Simulation

About the role

Code Metal is seeking a UX Lead / Senior Product Designer to own the end‑to‑end design experience for mission‑critical platforms that combine high‑fidelity simulation, geospatial data and real‑time decision‑making. You will translate complex, data‑dense workflows into intuitive interfaces for operators, analysts and engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Lead UX design from concept through production‑ready specifications for a complex geospatial and simulation platform.
• Conduct user research with domain experts, surface mental models and define clear interaction patterns.
• Build and iterate low‑ to high‑fidelity prototypes in close partnership with the Product Manager.
• Own and maintain a design system that provides implementable UI standards for frontend engineers.
• Partner with engineers to ensure design intent is executed correctly and participate in implementation reviews.

Required profile

• 5+ years of UX/product design experience, preferably in defense, aerospace or other mission‑critical software.
• Strong user‑research skills (interviews, contextual inquiry, usability testing) and ability to synthesize findings.
• Excellent communication and facilitation skills for design reviews with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work autonomously in an ambiguous, fast‑moving environment.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. security clearance.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Figma, including prototyping, component libraries and design‑system management.
• Understanding of frontend engineering concepts such as React and component libraries.
