Upward Bound Program Assistant

About the role

The Upward Bound Program Assistant provides administrative support to the federally funded Upward Bound college preparatory program, helping low‑income and first‑generation students succeed.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a library of college information, manage filing, phone and email communications.
• Assist with student records, inventory of supplies, and organization of storage rooms.
• Prepare program communications such as flyers, social media content, and email correspondence.
• Maintain office space, event aesthetics, program snacks/meals, and overall cleanliness.
• Support after‑school program activities, including creating weekly events and working until 6:30 p.m.
• Assist with student recruitment, orientations, training sessions, field trips, and meetings.
• Attend weekend, evening, and occasional travel events; lead or substitute teach Saturday college workshops.

Required profile

• High school diploma with demonstrated proficiency in related field.
• Inspirational and culturally aware, with experience addressing challenges faced by low‑income and first‑generation students.
• Knowledge of child and adolescent development and diverse learning styles.
• Ability to work effectively with students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic, and ethnic backgrounds.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Capacity to sit for extended periods, manage multiple activities, and work extended hours including overnight travel.
