Upward Bound Academic Instructor

About the role

The Upward Bound Academic Instructor will teach Saturday college courses to low‑income, first‑generation high‑school students in the Oakland area. Instruction focuses on STEM, language arts, social sciences and life‑skill workshops.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans, projects and assessments for 5‑20 students per class.
• Manage classroom behavior, support student engagement and maintain a productive learning environment.
• Participate in staff orientation, planning meetings and program evaluation sessions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of teaching experience.
• Minimum 2 years of experience working with low‑income, first‑generation college‑bound students.
• Ability to teach one or more subjects such as Mathematics, Science, English, History, Foreign Language or Visual/Performing Arts.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of the subject matter to be taught.
• Proficiency with computers and standard educational software.

What we offer

• Hourly compensation: $75/hr for STEM courses, $50/hr for non‑STEM courses during the academic year; $40/hr for all disciplines in the summer term.
• $200 supplies budget per class and a $200 per‑class supplies budget.
