Unmanned Systems Software Engineer

About the role

The Unmanned Systems Software Engineer will develop, integrate, test, and sustain advanced software for unmanned platforms supporting United States Special Operations Command. The role involves creating mobile and fixed applications, embedded system support, and enabling C2, ISR, and autonomous mission capabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deploy mobile and fixed software solutions for unmanned systems integration.
• Support embedded software on unmanned platforms and subsystems.
• Design, test, document, and maintain command‑and‑control and ISR software applications.
• Implement autonomous navigation, mission planning, and sensor‑fusion capabilities.
• Develop communication interfaces using MAVLink and related protocols.
• Build automation tools, scripts, and data‑processing pipelines in Python.
• Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and end users to deliver innovative solutions.

Required profile

• U.S. citizen with a valid driver’s license and active Secret clearance (TS/SCI eligibility).
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 3 years of professional software development experience (or 7 years without a degree).
• Experience supporting Group 1/2 unmanned systems; Group 3 experience is a plus.
• Ability to work in a laboratory, fabrication shop, and support field testing.

Required skills

• C and C++ programming.
• Python for scripting, automation, and data analysis.
• Qt and QML framework.
• MAVLink communication protocol.
• BetaFlight, ArduPilot, PX4 autopilot stacks.
• QGroundControl or comparable ground‑control software.
• Sensor‑fusion techniques (IMU, GPS, cameras, LiDAR).
• TCP/IP networking and troubleshooting.
