Underwriter or Underwriting Specialist, Middle Market

About the role

Zurich Middle Market is seeking an Underwriter or Underwriting Specialist to manage a portfolio of complex new and renewal business in the New York City region. You will act as a trusted advisor to brokers and customers, leveraging underwriting expertise and market knowledge to drive profitable growth.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as a customer and industry advocate, delivering tailored insurance solutions.
• Evaluate exposures, assess risk, and develop pricing strategies using disciplined underwriting.
• Utilize risk insights, data, analytics, and modeling tools for underwriting decisions.
• Identify coverage gaps and align Zurich’s products to provide comprehensive protection.
• Maintain market‑facing presence, meet production goals, and develop broker relationships.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent with relevant experience (1‑6 years depending on role).
• Knowledge of insurance industry, underwriting philosophy, regulations, and rating methodologies.
• Strong analytical thinking and ability to provide risk management guidance.
