Transmission Lab Test Engineer

About the role

A transmission lab test engineer is needed in Livonia, MI, to design, deliver and direct test systems for Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) and Transmission and Driveline Engineering (TDE) design verification. The engineer works closely with other engineers and test equipment vendors to meet product testing needs and milestone sign-offs.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and run transmission/drivetrain design verification (DV) testing processes
• Procure and install new test equipment systems, and operate ATI/ETAS systems
• Analyze fault codes, transmission calibration and data files, and QC test data
• Translate test requests into written test request manuals and lead test site troubleshooting
• Guide test technicians and help them carry out DV testing
• Optimize test processes, including converting them to automated (unmanned) operation, and build business cases and project plans
• Manage test equipment projects, including cost, timing and vendor coordination
• Develop test procedures and programs, and deliver test data to customers

Required profile

• B.S. in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited school
• 1+ years of lab testing experience preferred
• Ability to develop and present business cases and project documentation to upper management
• Dependable, punctual attendance Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with occasional early arrival, late stays and weekend work
• Pre-employment drug screen and background check required

Required skills

• MS Office, including Excel and VB macros
• Preferred: ADACS, ATI/ETAS, CANA, instrumentation and transducers, LABVIEW or basic programming
• Preferred: measurement uncertainty, calibration, data acquisition, control systems, SPC, QOS, FMEA, G8D and 6-Sigma
