Training Specialist – Shipyard Onboarding & Skills Development

About the role

Saronic Technologies seeks a Training Specialist to own the training calendar at its Franklin shipyard. You will design, deliver, and continuously improve hands‑on training that accelerates new‑hire productivity and ensures consistent skill standards across production trades.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the shipyard training schedule, logistics, and materials, providing a structured onboarding experience.
• Partner with shipyard leadership, supervisors, and subject‑matter experts to identify skill gaps and translate them into practical instruction.
• Adapt corporate training content for site‑specific conditions and ensure consistent delivery across trades.
• Apply adult‑learning principles, safety, operational, and compliance requirements to all floor‑based trainings.
• Track completion, quality, and learner feedback in the LMS, report results, and use data to refine programs.
• Design and deliver on‑the‑job training for welders, fitters, and related trades covering blueprint reading, layout, assembly, and safe tool use.
• Provide equipment and safety training, including Powered Industrial Truck certification, PPE reinforcement, fire prevention, and equipment inspection.
• Coach trainees in real time, escalating systemic issues when identified.
• Coordinate visits and sessions with local workforce development partners and corporate L&D.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 + years experience in aluminum welding, fitting, or a related shipbuilding/heavy‑manufacturing trade, preferably in a training or mentoring role.
• Relevant certifications (manufacturing, mariner, welding, electrical) and U.S. citizenship with ability to obtain a security clearance.
• Strong facilitation, writing, editing, project‑management, and organizational abilities.
• Experience delivering training in manufacturing or technical environments and using an LMS (Cornerstone preferred).
