Technical Writer

About the role

ABB is hiring a Technical Writer for its Motion Drive Products business, reporting to the Quality & Operations Excellence Manager. The role turns complex technical and manufacturing information into clear, accurate and user-friendly documentation so teams and customers can use products and processes effectively. It is a hybrid position based in New Berlin, Wisconsin.

Key responsibilities

• Create, edit and maintain technical documentation such as user manuals, work instructions, standard operating procedures, requirements, specifications and related product documentation.
• Partner with R&D, engineering, operations, quality, testing and other stakeholders to gather technical information and turn it into clear, user-friendly documentation.
• Review and improve existing documentation to increase consistency, accuracy, usability and standardization across products and processes.
• Coordinate document reviews and approvals, keeping documentation current with product changes, operational needs and internal standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Engineering, Business or a related field with 2+ years of relevant experience, or an Associate's degree with 4+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience creating technical documentation such as manuals, publications, work instructions, SOPs and specifications.
• Experience gathering requirements and working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills, and excellent verbal and written English.
• Work authorization to work for ABB in the US.
• Experience in power electronics, industrial automation, electronic manufacturing or variable frequency drives (VFDs) is strongly preferred.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
