Technical Underwriter – Workers Compensation

About the role

Zurich is seeking a Technical Underwriter for Workers Compensation to join its North America Technical Underwriting team. Reporting to the VP, Workers Compensation Technical Director, the role will shape underwriting strategy, drive portfolio performance and support product and pricing initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and adjust underwriting strategy based on performance metrics, data insights and syndicate findings.
• Lead development of technical underwriting guidelines, best practices, and operational transformation projects.
• Provide strategic consultation to business units, handle complex queries, and support profitability analysis.
• Participate in compliance reviews, regulatory exams and develop technical training content.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years underwriting experience, or high school with 10+ years.
• Strong communication, influencing and presentation skills with executive presence.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity, lead cross‑functional initiatives and drive innovative solutions.

Required skills

• CPCU designation (preferred).
• Advanced knowledge of Workers Compensation line, legal and regulatory environment.
• Experience in portfolio management, product development, risk selection and pricing.
