VP Senior Underwriting Manager – Surety Commercial

About the role

Zurich is seeking a VP Senior Underwriting Manager for Surety Commercial in the East Region. The role will lead a team of market‑facing underwriters, develop talent, and drive profitable growth while cultivating broker relationships across the Northeast.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and mentor a team of underwriters, providing coaching and development plans.
• Oversee underwriting processes, policy reviews, and ensure alignment with strategic business objectives.
• Identify market trends, work with actuaries on pricing, and manage key internal stakeholder relationships.
• Participate in leadership meetings, contribute to business strategy, and drive profitable results.
• Underwrite new and renewal business within delegated authority and maintain broker relationships.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years underwriting or related commercial insurance experience (or 20+ years in claims/underwriting support).
• Minimum 2 years of people management experience.
• Strong technical underwriting knowledge and experience in a specialized line of business.

Required skills

• Advanced knowledge of surety and commercial insurance lines.
• Strategic planning, negotiation, and team‑building abilities.
• Technical certifications such as CPCU.
