Tax Consultant II – Indirect Transaction Tax

About the role

Deloitte is seeking a Tax Consultant II to join its Indirect Tax group, focusing on transaction tax matters across the United States. The role blends technical tax consulting with innovative technology to help clients navigate complex state and local sales, use, and excise tax issues.

Key responsibilities

• Research state and local indirect tax legislation and draft client responses and memoranda.
• Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and streamline workflow.
• Support consulting projects such as over‑payment reviews, tax implications of sales and purchase transactions, audit defense, nexus planning, and voluntary disclosures.
• Manage engagement workflow and supervise tax consultants and interns on assigned engagements.
• Prepare client billings, reconcile accounts, and assist in drafting proposals for new and existing clients.
• Coordinate with Deloitte’s in‑house tax preparation team and client tax departments.
• Perform detailed technical reviews of state and local indirect tax returns on selected engagements.

Required profile

• Willingness to work in a hybrid model, co‑locating 2‑3 days per week.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
• At least 1 year of experience in state and local indirect tax (sales & use and excise tax).
• Experience preparing and reviewing state and local indirect tax returns.
• Limited immigration sponsorship may be available.
