Survey Crew Chief – Lead Field Survey Team

About the role

Woolpert is hiring a Survey Crew Chief to lead a field survey crew in New Mexico. The role supports land title, transportation, energy, aviation and land‑development projects, reporting to the Survey Team Leader.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a crew to perform boundary, topographic, construction and as‑built surveys.
• Operate and maintain total stations, GNSS receivers, laser scanners, levels and data collectors.
• Prepare detailed field notes, sketches and ensure data quality through software processing and verification.
• Monitor project progress, troubleshoot issues and communicate delays to the Team Leader.
• Enforce safety protocols, maintain PPE inventory and conduct equipment safety checks.

Required profile

• 10+ years of surveying experience in a leadership role.
• High school diploma or GED; associate or bachelor’s degree in surveying, geomatics or civil engineering is a plus.
• Physically able to stand, stoop, lift 40 lb regularly and work outdoors in varied weather.
• Valid driver’s license, clean driving record and ability to pass background and drug tests.

Required skills

• Proficiency with total stations, GNSS GPS receivers, laser scanners and levels.
• Experience using survey data collection and processing software.
• Ability to operate ground‑penetrating radar and electromagnetic locators.
• Knowledge of Subsurface Utility Engineering (ASCE 38‑22) standards.
• Competence with Microsoft Office and data transfer tools.
