Surf Guide – Outdoor Pursuits Department

About the role

The Surf Guide will join Discovery Land Company’s Outdoor Pursuits Department at Atlantic Fields in Hobe Sound, FL. You will deliver personalized surf instruction and ensure the highest level of safety and service for club members across all outdoor activities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑on‑one and small‑group surf lessons for members of all ages and skill levels.
• Conduct safety briefings covering ocean awareness, rip‑current identification, and board handling.
• Assess each participant’s ability and tailor lesson plans to individual goals.
• Monitor ocean and weather conditions, adjusting or rescheduling sessions as needed.
• Maintain surfboards, leashes, fins, and instructional equipment in clean, safe condition.
• Coordinate lesson scheduling and track member progression with the Outdoor Pursuits team.
• Participate in and instruct other outdoor activities such as archery, axe throwing, equestrian operations, fishing, and racquet sports.
• Maintain detailed inventory of all Outdoor Pursuits equipment and perform regular checks.
• Enforce safety policies, supervise on‑ and off‑site events, and transport participants safely.
• Assist with overnight camping experiences and daily setup/breakdown of department activities.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience as a surf instructor or competitive surfer.
• Strong foundational teaching ability.
• ISA (International Surfing Association) certification or equivalent qualification.
