SUE Field Technician – Utility Locating

About the role

The SUE Field Technician supports Horrocks' Utah team by collecting accurate field data, managing multiple utility‑locating projects, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to meet project deadlines. This is a hands‑on, field‑based position that requires physical stamina and a strong safety focus.

Key responsibilities

• Obtain and maintain all required safety certifications and a DOT medical card.
• Organize field schedules and work on multiple projects simultaneously to meet client deadlines.
• Execute field investigations using vacuum excavation and electromagnetic/geophysical technologies to locate and verify existing utilities.
• Read and interpret utility records, as‑built drawings, survey plans, and highway design documents.
• Collect and document field data accurately in accordance with ASCE 38 standards.
• Coordinate with supervisors and clients to ensure project requirements are met both in the office and on site.

Required profile

• 0–8 years of SUE or utility‑designating experience (or 0–10 years in related services).
• Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and ability to operate a company vehicle.
• Physical ability to lift 75 lb, walk long distances, work in all weather conditions, and travel for overnight projects.
• High School Diploma or GED; additional training or schooling is a plus.
• Strong work ethic, professional demeanor, and clear communication with diverse stakeholders.

Required skills

• Vacuum excavation equipment operation.
• Electromagnetic and geophysical locating technologies.
• Knowledge of ASCE 38 standards.
• GPS surveying (plus).
• AutoCAD or MicroStation (plus).
