Subsurface Utility Engineer (SUE) Field Technician

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Subsurface Utility Engineer (SUE) Field Technician to join our team in Chipley. You will support underground utility locating and design projects using advanced non‑destructive technologies while ensuring safety and quality on the field.

Key responsibilities

• Locate underground utilities with electromagnetic induction (EMI) and ground‑penetrating radar (GPR).
• Operate vacuum excavation trucks and associated equipment such as air compressors, vacuum hoses, air lances, jackhammers and concrete saws.
• Perform utility mark‑outs, surveying tasks and SUE field activities with minimal supervision.
• Document field data through sketches, photos, spreadsheets, daily reports and written summaries.
• Read and interpret technical documents, maintain equipment, and conduct basic troubleshooting.
• Support and mentor junior staff and assist senior team members with client, agency and subcontractor coordination.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED (preferred).
• Strong communication and leadership abilities with a positive “can‑do” attitude.
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 60 lb.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean record and ability to pass drug screening and background checks.
• Readiness to travel, including overnight assignments.
