Student-Athlete Academic Advisor

About the role

The Department of Athletics at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore seeks a full‑time Student‑Athlete Academic Advisor. Reporting to the Assistant Athletic Director for Academics, you will guide student‑athletes through their academic journey, ensuring progress toward graduation and compliance with NCAA eligibility standards.

Key responsibilities

• Meet individually with student‑athletes to provide academic counseling, study‑hall planning, and address related concerns.
• Assist with course registration, aligning schedules with major requirements and athletic commitments.
• Maintain detailed advising records for each student‑athlete.
• Monitor NCAA rules and university policies to ensure satisfactory academic progress.
• Support departmental programs and perform additional duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (preferred).
• At least one year of experience advising student‑athletes.
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse socio‑economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.

Required skills

• Strong interpersonal and organizational abilities.
• Effective oral and written communication.
• Flexibility to work non‑traditional hours, including occasional evenings.
