About the role
The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) is seeking a Statistics Intern to support its Statistical Division in New York. This full‑time, unpaid internship offers hands‑on experience with data collection, analysis, and dissemination across a range of statistical projects.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in designing, organizing, and managing the collection, evaluation, analysis, and visualization of statistical data.
- Support the development and maintenance of statistical databases and interactive dashboards.
- Create research contributions and draft reports, briefing notes, and technical documents.
- Develop software prototypes using Python for data processing and visualization.
- Produce content for outreach activities, including social‑media posts.
- Provide training and technical support for data‑collection programmes and country practices.
- Participate in the organization of seminars, working groups, and expert meetings.
Required profile
- Available for a 2‑6 month period, full‑time (35 hours per week).
- Unpaid internship; eligible to work in New York.
- Strong interest in statistics, data analysis, and international development.
Required skills
- Python programming.
