Stationary Engineer III – HVAC Operations

About the role

The Stationary Engineer III is responsible for the routine and emergency operation, maintenance, and repair of the university’s central plant HVAC equipment. This role ensures reliable heating, cooling, ventilation, and water‑treatment services across the campus.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor central plant equipment including boilers, chillers, pumps, air handlers, compressors and exhaust fans.
• Adjust building management systems (Johnson Controls Metasys, Automated Building Systems, Tridium Niagara, Trane Summit) to maintain temperature and humidity set points.
• Perform preventative maintenance, weekly building checks and generate work orders for non‑routine issues.
• Respond to HVAC service calls from campus buildings, events and residence halls, dispatching work to day‑shift engineers.
• Schedule and track work orders in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED and a valid First Class Limited Stationary Engineer’s License issued by the City of Tulsa.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to read blueprints and control schematics.
• Strong customer‑service orientation and teamwork skills.
• Physical ability to lift 30‑50 lb, bend, stoop and work in varied environmental conditions.

Required skills

• Operation of high‑pressure boilers and variable‑speed motors.
• Operation of large‑tonnage centrifugal chillers (800 tons or greater) and plate heat exchangers.
• Management of water‑treatment and softening systems.
• Use of Johnson Controls Metasys Extended Architecture, Automated Building Systems, Tridium Niagara and Trane Summit Control platforms.
• Proficiency with a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for work‑order scheduling.
