Staff Software Engineer, Identity Platform

About the role

MoonPay is building a unified identity and KYC platform that supports customers across ramps, cards, virtual accounts and enterprise products. This role defines the architecture and technical direction of the platform, working across product, engineering, compliance and security to capture, verify, store, link and expose identity safely through APIs and SDKs. It is a hands-on technical position in a hybrid setting.

Key responsibilities

• Turn a broad identity and KYC vision into a clear technical strategy, architecture and sequence of deliverables, and set the technical bar through rigorous reviews and standards.
• Design a unified identity layer and model the customer identity lifecycle, including creation, verification, linking, updates, consent and deletion.
• Build secure APIs and SDKs for internal teams and external partners, and integrate KYC and identity-verification providers.
• Define how identity data is stored, accessed and shared, with consent, auditability, data residency, retention and deletion built in, and safe degradation when dependencies fail.
• Build public-facing APIs, SDKs and documentation, stable contracts and versioning, and provide observability into identity journeys and integrations.

Required profile

• Experience building or owning production identity, KYC, authentication or customer-data infrastructure used across multiple products.
• Experience defining shared technical foundations, and taking a problem nobody had fully scoped and creating a technical direction.
• Hands-on engineering: designing, building, reviewing and operating production systems.
• Nice to have: identity/KYC infrastructure in payments, fintech or banking; OAuth, OIDC, WebAuthn, passkeys, session management or account recovery; developer platforms; familiarity with the stack (TypeScript, Node.js, GCP, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kubernetes).
