Staff+ Software Engineer, Data Infrastructure

About the role

Anthropic is building reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. The Data Infrastructure team designs, operates, and scales secure, privacy‑respecting systems that power data‑driven decisions across the company. As a Staff+ Software Engineer you will work at the intersection of data systems, security, and scalability, collaborating closely with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement robust access‑control and audit‑logging infrastructure for data governance.
• Build and maintain financial data pipelines and warehouses, ensuring data integrity for revenue and usage reporting.
• Architect disaster‑recovery, backup, and replication systems for petabyte‑scale cloud storage (GCS, S3).
• Scale data processing platforms using BigQuery, BigTable, Airflow, dbt, Spark, and related tooling.
• Set technical direction, lead large‑scale projects, and mentor engineers across the team.

Required profile

• 10+ years of software engineering experience building data infrastructure or distributed storage systems.
• 3+ years leading complex, large‑scale projects or teams.
• Proven ability to define technical strategy and drive execution.
• Strong collaboration skills with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Required skills

• Programming: Python, Go, Java, SQL.
• Infrastructure‑as‑code: Terraform, Pulumi.
• Cloud platforms: GCP, AWS.
• Data technologies: BigQuery, BigTable, Airflow, Cloud Composer, dbt, Spark, Segment, Fivetran.
• Storage: GCS, S3.
• Container orchestration: Kubernetes.
