Staff Mechanical Engineer – Systems Integration

About the role

As a Staff Mechanical Engineer focusing on Systems Integration, you will lead the technical integration of major aircraft subsystems across the full product development lifecycle at Shield AI, a defense‑tech company developing autonomous aircraft.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as technical lead for integration of major aircraft systems across mechanical, electrical, avionics, and fluid domains.
• Establish subsystem installation architecture and interface strategies, and lead multidisciplinary packaging studies.
• Develop engineering standards for installation design, routing practices, CAD modeling, drawing quality, and configuration management.
• Lead complex investigations, review and approve installation drawings, BOM structures, engineering changes, and guide prototype builds to production.
• Coordinate with structures, stress, manufacturing, and supply‑chain teams while mentoring engineers across programs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years experience developing and integrating aircraft or complex aerospace systems, with ownership of subsystem integration from concept to production.
• Proven ability to lead cross‑functional technical teams and manage scope, schedule, risks, and engineering execution.

Required skills

• Advanced aircraft installation design, packaging, mounting, maintainability, and interface definition.
• Expertise with CAD and PLM tools such as CATIA, NX, Creo, Teamcenter, Windchill, or 3DEXPERIENCE.
• Strong GD&T knowledge, tolerance stack‑up analysis, and drawing development for parts, assemblies, and installations.
• Experience managing BOMs, product structures, engineering changes, and configuration baselines.
• Design of machined, fabricated, sheet‑metal hardware and routing of EWIS, hydraulic, ECS, fuel, and pneumatic systems.
