Job description
About the role
We are seeking a Staff Functional Safety Engineer to lead the safety strategy for propulsion, dynamics, and chassis features across multiple vehicle programs. You will define safety architecture patterns, redundancy strategies, and ASIL decomposition methods that guide senior engineers and shape the safety case for production.
Key responsibilities
- Own the functional safety architecture across several vehicle programs, establishing safety concepts, redundancy approaches, and ASIL decomposition frameworks.
- Lead high‑complexity safety analyses such as system and software HARA, FTA, FMEA, DFA, and especially common‑cause and dependent‑failure analysis for redundant channels.
- Set, defend, and allocate FTTI/FDTI/FRTI budgets, balancing availability requirements with fault‑reaction needs.
- Define domain requirements strategy, including FSR/TSR/SWSR structures, traceability models, and quality criteria within the requirements tool.
- Own safety validation activities: fault‑insertion campaigns, HIL and vehicle‑level coverage, and release qualification criteria.
- Mentor senior and mid‑level safety engineers, create reusable safety concept templates, and drive AI‑assisted workflows that maintain ISO 26262 rigor.
Required profile
- Extensive experience in automotive functional safety, preferably at a staff or senior level.
- Proven ability to act as technical authority across multiple programs and with Tier 1 suppliers.
- Strong communication skills to represent safety positions to executives, assessors, and cross‑functional teams.
Required skills
- ISO 26262 functional safety standard
- ASIL classification and decomposition
- Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA)
- Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
- Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
- Design Failure Analysis (DFA)
- FTTI/FDTI/FRTI budgeting
- Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HIL) testing
- AI‑assisted safety analysis workflows
