Staff Engineer – PCB Design

About the role

Shield AI is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead PCB design for its advanced aircraft platforms. You will translate schematics into robust, manufacturable PCBA layouts, collaborating with electrical, mechanical and manufacturing teams.

Key responsibilities

• Create PCB layouts for complex digital, analog, RF, high‑speed and power electronics.
• Plan and manage stack‑ups in partnership with fabrication vendors and manufacturing engineers.
• Interpret schematics, routing rules and design intent with electrical engineers.
• Coordinate board form‑factor integration, connector placement and placement constraints with mechanical engineers.
• Apply best practices for signal integrity, power integrity, grounding, impedance control and thermal/EMI mitigation.
• Conduct design reviews, generate Gerber/ODB++ files, fabrication and assembly documentation, and ensure compliance with DFM requirements.

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience in PCB layout for production hardware (or equivalent education/experience).
• Proven ability to work with cross‑functional teams to deliver manufacturable designs.

Required skills

• Altium Designer.
• IPC standards (IPC‑2221, IPC‑2222, IPC‑7351).
• PCB stack‑up design and controlled‑impedance routing.
• Differential pairs, length matching, high‑current power distribution.
• Scripting and automation for layout tasks.
• Signal integrity, power integrity, grounding, impedance control.
• Thermal and EMI mitigation techniques.
• Generation of Gerber and ODB++ manufacturing outputs.
