Staff Engineer, Mission Systems – Fleet Support

About the role

Shield AI is looking for a Staff Engineer to serve as the mission‑systems subject matter expert for the V‑BAT Fleet Support team. You will own customer‑facing engineering support for payload, transponder and other mission‑critical system issues, bridging the gap between field support and internal engineering groups.

Key responsibilities

• Lead escalated investigations on payloads, transponders and externally connected mission systems.
• Diagnose integration and performance issues related to power, thermal, compute, data interfaces and timing.
• Troubleshoot system‑to‑system connectivity and external data‑output problems.
• Support introduction of emerging technologies by identifying risks, validation needs and integration challenges.
• Work directly with customers, operators and maintainers to reproduce issues and define corrective actions.
• Create technical guidance, interface notes, troubleshooting procedures and customer‑facing documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Systems, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• 5+ years experience in payload, sensor or mission‑systems integration, avionics or aircraft systems engineering.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex hardware, software and networking problems.
• Experience across design, integration, test and field‑support environments.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for customer‑facing technical settings.
