Staff Engineer – Integration (Vision Systems)

About the role

Shield AI is seeking a hands‑on Staff Engineer to deploy, integrate, maintain and support advanced vision and detection systems across laboratory, production, customer and field environments. The role bridges software, electrical and mechanical disciplines on crewed and uncrewed aircraft.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure and support camera pods, imaging sensors, processing hardware and related assemblies on aircraft and test assets.
• Load, update and validate software releases following configuration‑control procedures.
• Perform system bring‑up, functional checkout, acceptance testing and post‑installation verification of sensor, compute, power, network and aircraft interfaces.
• Maintain accurate hardware and software configuration records, including serial numbers, part numbers and service history.
• Read and apply mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics and interface‑control documents.
• Conduct basic wiring and electro‑mechanical work such as connector inspection, continuity checks and cable routing.
• Troubleshoot software, electrical, network, sensor and mechanical integration issues using logs, diagnostics and test equipment.
• Document field issues, test results and corrective actions in service reports and engineering‑tracking systems.
• Coordinate with engineering, production, quality, program and customer teams to resolve issues and implement changes.
• Provide on‑site customer support, training and technical guidance during deployments and demonstrations.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in field service, aerospace integration, avionics or related technical discipline.
• Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree (or equivalent practical experience).
• Hands‑on experience installing, integrating, maintaining or troubleshooting electro‑mechanical systems, sensors and airborne payloads.
• Proven ability to install, configure, update and verify software or firmware on fielded systems.
• Strong documentation skills for hardware accountability, inventory and software version tracking.
• Willingness to travel up to 50 % and obtain a SECRET clearance.

Required skills

• Linux and Windows operating systems, command‑line tools and software deployment workflows.
• Networking fundamentals, log collection and basic network diagnostics.
• Reading and interpreting wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, mechanical drawings and interface‑control documents.
• Use of digital multimeters, continuity testers, oscilloscopes, power supplies and network analyzers.
• Basic wiring, connector inspection, cable routing and termination.
• Familiarity with configuration‑management, asset‑management and maintenance‑tracking systems.
