About the role

At Sema4.ai we are building an Enterprise AI Agent platform that lets people and AI agents collaborate securely and reliably. As a Staff Engineer on the AI team you will design, build, and extend the core cognitive architecture that powers our agents, turning cutting‑edge research into production‑grade capabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and own core agent‑framework components, orchestration logic, and LLM integration layers that support business‑critical workloads.
• Collaborate closely with product and field‑engineering teams to translate customer needs into robust system features.
• Address ambiguous, high‑leverage problems such as agent reliability, long‑running workflows, cost‑performance trade‑offs, and responsible integration of new model capabilities.
• Participate in design and code reviews, shape technical standards, and mentor or interview engineering candidates.

Required profile

• GenAI expert who understands LLM production challenges—prompt brittleness, context limits, latency, cost, and enterprise reliability.
• In‑depth technologist who follows research trends, designs adaptable systems, and avoids unnecessary complexity.
• Builder with standards who values correctness, clarity, and operational behavior while iterating quickly.

Required skills

• Strong Python backend development experience, including performance, observability, and reliability engineering.
• Hands‑on design and operation of LLM‑based systems (agents, orchestration, retrieval, tool integration).
• Experience building AI/ML production systems and integrating large language models.
