Sr. Software Engineer – Backend / API Engineering

About the role

We are looking for a senior backend engineer to design and build core services for a state government licensing and compliance platform on Google Cloud. The role is contract‑based, fully remote, and focuses on Java microservices and API design.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement Java 21/Spring Boot microservices on Cloud Run for licensing, case management, payments, documents and notifications.
• Define and own public and internal REST APIs, including OpenAPI specifications, versioning, pagination and error contracts.
• Integrate with GCP serverless services such as Pub/Sub, Cloud Tasks and Cloud Scheduler.
• Ensure API security using OAuth 2.0/OIDC and JWT with role‑based authorization.
• Write automated tests (JUnit, integration) and support CI/CD pipelines.
• Implement observability – structured logging, metrics, tracing and service‑level objectives.

Required profile

• 8+ years of professional backend development experience.
• Strong expertise in Java 21 and Spring Boot 3.x.
• Hands‑on production experience on Google Cloud Platform.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
