Specialty Doctor – Public Health

About the role

The Specialty Doctor Public Health position is based in the multi‑disciplinary Public Health Directorate at NHS Lanarkshire Headquarters in Kirklands. The role provides essential medical capacity to the Health Protection Team, supporting vaccination, immunisation, and tuberculosis services.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver complex immunisation clinical assessments and provide expert vaccination advice.
• Lead reactive immunisation interventions during outbreaks of vaccine‑preventable diseases.
• Support and develop TB services within the Health Protection portfolio.
• Contribute to quality improvement, patient safety, medical education, and research initiatives.
• Engage in SPA (Specialist Physician Associate) activities, including appraisal and service development, as agreed with the recruitment lead.

Required profile

• Qualified medical doctor with experience in public health, health protection, or infectious disease.
• Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety, and continuous professional development.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Willingness to discuss and undertake additional SPA responsibilities.
