Specialized Attorney 4 – Lead Trial Attorney (Metro Office)

About the role

The Georgia Public Defender Council is expanding its Specialized Unit and seeks a Specialized Attorney 4 to serve as a lead trial attorney in the Metro Office, based in downtown Atlanta. This role involves handling serious and complex criminal cases across the greater metropolitan area, providing high‑quality representation to clients throughout all phases of litigation.

Key responsibilities

• Attend scheduled court appearances, manage case files, and coordinate with courts, clients, witnesses, and experts.
• Represent clients at arraignments, pre‑trial hearings, sentencing, post‑conviction hearings, and appeals.
• Prepare and argue motions, conduct jury selection, deliver opening and closing statements, present evidence, and examine witnesses.
• Review discovery, interview clients, inspect records and evidence, and develop defense strategies.
• Travel throughout the Metro region (Clayton, Griffin, DeKalb, Rockdale, Alcovy, Fulton) to manage a demanding caseload of serious offenses.

Required profile

• Bar‑admitted attorney with substantial courtroom and trial experience.
• Proven ability to handle high‑level felony litigation from preparation through trial and resolution.
• Willingness to travel throughout the metropolitan Atlanta area and manage a heavy caseload.
• Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of advocacy, professionalism, and client‑centered representation.
