Software Engineering Manager (AI Products, R37)

About the role

R37 is R1's AI innovation lab, building technology to transform healthcare. Its flagship platform, Phare OS, uses AI and automation to improve pre-bill workflows such as authorization, utilization management, documentation and coding, helping prevent claim denials. As Engineering Manager, you will lead and mentor multidisciplinary engineering teams, collaborate with product and AI leaders on the product roadmap, and drive the delivery of scalable AI-powered solutions from concept to production. The role is hybrid (3 days onsite) at the SOHO Office Hub in New York City.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of AI/ML, data and full-stack engineers delivering AI-native products, defining the team's structure and functions
• Cultivate a high-performing team through recruitment, mentorship and retention
• Work with product, engineering, AI research and data science teams to set strategic goals and the AI product roadmap
• Play a key role in hiring, recruiting and onboarding new talent
• Spearhead 0-to-1 product innovation by exploring and implementing new AI/ML technologies and techniques
• Champion agile methodologies and DevOps best practices, including automated testing and efficient releases
• Contribute to a diverse and inclusive team and culture, and support mentoring and development across R37

Required profile

• 3+ years of experience leading, hiring and developing engineering teams as an Engineering Manager
• Proven experience building and scaling teams that deliver Search, Ranking, Generative AI or other AI-driven products at scale
• Strong track record of leading 0-to-1 product development
• Strong people leadership, ability to navigate ambiguity, and experience building high-performing engineering organizations
• Healthcare or revenue cycle management experience preferred but not required

Required skills

• Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages such as Python, Java, Go, Rust, TypeScript, Kotlin or C#
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

What we offer

• Base pay range of $101,100 to $206,802.61 per year, depending on role, level, location, skills and experience
• Eligibility for an annual bonus plan at a target of 10%
