Software Engineer II – AI/ML Focus

About the role

Mastercard’s Core Payments team is seeking a Software Engineer II with a strong passion for Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Generative AI. You will design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain scalable, AI‑enabled software solutions that improve operational efficiency and create innovative customer experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain backend applications and microservices using Java/J2EE and Spring Boot.
• Integrate AI/ML capabilities, AI agents, and Model Context Protocol (MCP) into APIs and distributed systems.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, monitoring, and observability for AI‑enabled services.
• Apply secure coding practices, ensure high availability, performance, and compliance with security standards.

Required profile

• Proven experience building backend Java applications with Spring Boot and RESTful APIs.
• Strong understanding of microservice architecture, event‑driven design, and relational databases (SQL).
• Hands‑on experience with cloud‑native development, containerization, and orchestration technologies.
• Familiarity with AI‑assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code.
