Software Engineer – Backend (Quantum Platform)

About the role

Q-CTRL is looking for a Software Engineer to join its Boulder Opal team. You will build the backend infrastructure that powers a quantum software platform, working closely with compiler engineers and researchers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services using Python and modern C++.
• Develop APIs and services that support the compiler and quantum runtime (REST, gRPC, GraphQL).
• Build reliable distributed, cloud‑native systems and improve performance, reliability, and observability.
• Collaborate with compiler engineers to integrate new compiler capabilities into production.
• Partner with researchers and product teams to deliver new platform features.
• Grow expertise in compiler infrastructure and quantum computing over time.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• Strong programming skills in Python.
• Experience with modern C++.
• Proven experience building backend or distributed services.
• Experience designing APIs using REST, gRPC or GraphQL.

What we offer

• Targeted base salary range $130,000 – $170,000 per year.
