Software Engineer 1 - Cyber Training Solutions

About the role

Amentum is looking for a Software Engineer 1 to join its DevOps team in Hanover, MD. The team builds, deploys and supports mission-focused cyber training solutions used across several locations, working across the full software development lifecycle with instructors, developers and system administrators. Engineers work on a diverse portfolio of applications and infrastructure rather than a single product.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in developing, troubleshooting, testing and maintaining software for cyber training environments
• Implement technical solutions based on established requirements, under the guidance of senior engineers
• Develop software components, scripts, APIs and UI enhancements
• Support development pipelines, application deployment and environment configuration
• Contribute to databases, scripts, automation and data processing solutions
• Help create and maintain realistic cyber training environments and simulations
• Test, debug, validate and document software designs, configurations and procedures
• Collaborate with instructors and technical teams to improve training capabilities and recommend improvements

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems or a related field, OR an Associate's degree (or 18 semester hours of military coursework in a computer field) plus two years of relevant experience, OR high school diploma/GED plus four years of relevant experience
• Familiarity with one or more programming languages and object-oriented development
• Familiarity with Linux or Windows operating systems
• Exposure to Agile practices; exposure to virtualization or containers is desirable
• TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph

Required skills

• Preferred: Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, Go, React, Angular, SQL or NoSQL databases
• Preferred: source control, automated testing, scripting, Linux/Windows, virtualization, containers, CI/CD or DevOps tools
