SIU / Claims Investigator

About the role

Allied Universal Compliance and Investigation Services is hiring a full-time SIU / Claims Investigator in Virginia Beach, VA. SIU / Claims specialists investigate insurance claims that show signs of fraud, using knowledge of insurance policies and fraud to decide whether a claim should be reported to the appropriate state agency for prosecution. Pay is $25-$32 per hour.

Key responsibilities

• Independently investigate suspected fraudulent insurance claims across workers' compensation, general liability, property and casualty and disability coverages.
• Gather information through data collection, interviews, research and collaboration with other SIU entities, law enforcement and state Departments of Insurance.
• Create and maintain detailed documentation for investigations, file reviews, audits, training tasks and consulting projects.
• Write professional reports, memos and letters that are clear, concise and grammatically correct.
• Run database searches when needed and verify the accuracy of results.
• Develop a strategic plan for each assignment, documenting thoroughly and communicating effectively with clients and the SIU supervisor.

Required profile

• Valid private investigator's license before applying, and ability to complete the company's training/orientation after the offer.
• Either a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, or a high school diploma or higher with at least five years of law enforcement experience focused on fraud investigations.
• At least five years of experience investigating complex insurance claims or adjusting complex insurance claims.
• Knowledge of anti-fraud laws, insurance regulations and compliance standards in the home state and region.
• Flexibility to work varied, irregular hours including weekends and holidays.

Required skills

• Proficiency with laptops and cell phones.
• Typing speed of 40+ words per minute with minimal errors.
• Preferred: military or law enforcement experience, insurance administration experience, familiarity with California SIU regulations, and certifications such as CFE, CIFI, FCLA, FCLS, CPP, AIC or CPCU.
