Senior/Staff Backend Engineer – Applied AI

About the role

Hypha is building an AI‑native platform for asset management in healthcare facilities and multifamily real estate. As a Senior/Staff Backend Engineer, Applied AI, you will own the architecture and evolution of the AI systems that power document processing, extraction, entity resolution, and conversational interfaces.

Key responsibilities

• Design and scale AI‑powered backend systems for document extraction, entity resolution, and structured data generation.
• Build resilient pipelines, queues, and orchestration layers for multi‑step AI workflows.
• Define data models and storage strategies using PostgreSQL for complex financial data.
• Establish observability, monitoring, and evaluation standards for AI services.
• Collaborate with leadership, product, and engineering teams to shape technical direction and scaling strategy.
• Provide architectural reviews, design feedback, and mentorship to other engineers.

Required profile

• 7+ years of backend or full‑stack software engineering experience.
• Proven track record of owning production backend systems.
• Deep expertise in Node.js, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL.
• Strong understanding of concurrency, queuing, and data‑pipeline design.
• Ability to make high‑leverage decisions on performance, reliability, and trade‑offs.
