Senior Workplace Interior Designer
Bespoke Careers · Washington DC
Job description
About the role
An award-winning design practice based in one of DC's most creative neighbourhoods is looking for a senior interior designer to lead workplace interior projects. The firm is known for technically rigorous, beautifully resolved interiors and invests in its people through mentoring programmes, research grants and an Art Night. The role suits someone who can own a room, from client presentations and construction administration meetings to mentoring junior designers.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the design vision on workplace interior projects, developing concepts, finish palettes and refined design aesthetics.
- Produce detailed, high-quality construction document sets with rigorous coordination.
- Manage code analysis (ADA, IBC and beyond) and coordinate across the full consultant team (architectural, MEP, lighting, acoustic, security).
- Drive construction administration for interior renovations and new commercial developments from start to finish.
- Translate complex briefs into clear presentations and detailed design documentation for clients.
- Mentor and guide junior designers through every phase of the design process, from first concept to final punch list.
Required profile
- 8-15 years of experience in interior design or architecture with a strong focus on workplace interiors.
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Interior Design or Architecture; valid US work permit required.
- Proven leadership and mentorship skills.
- NCIDQ certification or architectural licensure preferred; LEED and/or WELL accreditation is a bonus.
Required skills
- Advanced proficiency in Revit, Enscape, Photoshop, Bluebeam Studio and InDesign; excellent 3D modelling skills highly valued.
- Familiarity with construction administration platforms such as TonicDM, Newforma, PlanGrid, Procore, Autodesk Build or Kahua.
- In-depth experience in space planning, FF&E specifications and materials selection for commercial interiors.
What we offer
- Hybrid working: 3 days in the studio, 2 days remote, with flexible hours.
- Competitive salary with health, dental and life insurance, 401(k) and generous paid leave.
- Paid maternity and paternity leave, plus 24 hours of paid volunteer time per year.
- Reimbursement of accreditation testing costs, mentoring programme and research microgrant opportunities.
- Fully stocked model shop, VR space, company-provided kit, pre-tax parking and transportation programme.
- Social events including Art Night, monthly happy hours, summer picnic and holiday party.
