Senior Water/Wastewater Facilities Inspector

About the role

Gonzalez Companies is seeking a Senior Water/Wastewater Facilities Inspector to lead construction inspection and project management for municipal water and sewer projects in the Chicago area. The role combines field inspections, coordination with stakeholders, and technical guidance to ensure quality, safety, and environmental compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee construction projects from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to design, schedule, and budget.
• Coordinate with clients, architects, engineers, contractors, and subcontractors.
• Review construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Conduct site inspections to monitor quality, progress, and compliance with safety, building codes, and project specifications.
• Identify and resolve engineering or construction issues promptly.
• Review contracts, RFIs, material submittals, and change orders.
• Implement best‑practice construction management techniques to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• Ensure stormwater management and erosion control compliance.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and field staff.
• Maintain accurate project records and progress reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of construction engineering or inspection experience, preferably on municipal, transportation, or heavy civil projects in Chicago.
• Strong project planning, organizational, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Familiarity with OSHA and local safety regulations, as well as environmental compliance requirements.
