Senior UX Designer

About the role

As a Senior UX Designer at CivilGrid you will shape how civil engineers, GIS teams, and field crews interact with dense, high‑stakes spatial data every day. You will partner closely with product managers, engineers, and researchers to take concepts through to polished, shipped experiences while raising the design bar across the team.

Key responsibilities

• Own design end‑to‑end for your area, from early concepts through high‑fidelity mockups, prototyping and shipped product.
• Partner with product managers and engineers as a true thought partner, shaping scope, navigating trade‑offs and designing within technical constraints.
• Translate complex spatial and workflow data—maps, layers, permits, project stages—into simple, intuitive interfaces.
• Collaborate with the UX researcher to ground decisions in real customer workflows and run lightweight testing when speed matters.
• Contribute to and evolve the design system, raising consistency and craft as the product grows.

Required profile

• 6+ years of product design experience, preferably on complex, data‑dense B2B products.
• Portfolio demonstrating end‑to‑end thinking and rationale behind key decisions.
• Comfort designing for dense, structured data (maps, tables, layered information) without overwhelming users.
• Ability to work independently from ambiguous problems to shippable designs, knowing when to involve others.
• Strong collaboration instincts, able to defend design decisions with engineers and executives while remaining adaptable.

Required skills

• Experience designing for maps, GIS, CAD or other spatial/geospatial products (bonus).
• Background in utilities, construction or civil engineering (bonus).
• Experience building or maturing a design system at an early‑stage company (bonus).
