Senior Trial Attorney – Criminal Prosecutor

About the role

The Third Judicial District Attorney's Office in Las Cruces, New Mexico is seeking an experienced attorney to join its team as a Senior Trial Attorney. This full‑time, at‑will position offers the chance to lead and assist in complex criminal prosecutions while mentoring newer prosecutors and collaborating closely with law‑enforcement partners.

Key responsibilities

• Prosecute significant felony and misdemeanor criminal cases throughout Doña Ana County.
• Lead or assist in complex criminal jury trials, handling all phases of trial preparation and presentation.
• Mentor and support the professional development of junior prosecutors.
• Work closely with local law‑enforcement agencies and other criminal‑justice partners.
• Participate in law‑enforcement training programs and community‑outreach initiatives.
• Provide guidance on legal strategy, evidence handling, and courtroom advocacy.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active New Mexico bar license.
• Minimum four years of criminal law practice or three years of prosecutorial experience.
• Excellent courtroom advocacy and litigation skills.
• Strong legal research, writing, and analytical abilities.
• Sound judgment, prosecutorial discretion, and a commitment to ethical prosecution.
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
