Senior System Safety Engineer – Robot Stability

About the role

Rhoda AI is developing generalist intelligent robots and seeks a Senior System Safety Engineer to lead the design and verification of robot stability and balance systems. Reporting to the Head of Safety and Certification, you will ensure AI‑driven control meets rigorous safety standards for humanoid platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Develop safety requirements for robot stability through analysis, testing, and empirical derivation.
• Architect fail‑safe methodologies for real‑time controllers such as ZMP, MPC, and whole‑body control.
• Define sensor feedback requirements (IMU, force/torque, vision) for state estimation and disturbance rejection.
• Invent and improve techniques for robustness against external perturbations, uneven terrain, and dynamic interactions.
• Collaborate with perception, planning, and hardware teams to integrate safety‑critical features, including fall prevention and recovery.
• Simulate, test, and validate control strategies in virtual environments (MuJoCo, Gazebo, Isaac Sim) and on physical robots.

Required profile

• MS or PhD in Robotics, Control Systems, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• Strong background in dynamics, kinematics, and control theory applied to humanoid or legged robots.
• Hands‑on experience with data collection, verification, and validation for safety certification.

Required skills

• Python for data analysis.
• Simulation tools: MuJoCo, Gazebo, Isaac Sim.
• State estimation techniques: Kalman filters, sensor fusion.
• C programming with MISRA C extensions for real‑time systems.
• Control frameworks: whole‑body control, QP, MPC.
• Safety analysis methods: dFMEA, STPA, Fault Tree Analysis.
• Knowledge of ISO/TS 15066, ISO/TS 25785‑1, ISO 26262, IEC 61508.
