Senior Specialist, Climate Health & WASH

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Senior Specialist to lead Climate‑Resilient Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (CR‑WASH) and climate‑sensitive infectious disease prevention across its global crisis response, recovery and development portfolio. This senior position reports to the Environment & Climate Health Global Practice Lead and drives strategic projects that ensure water security and health outcomes in fragile and conflict‑affected settings.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a complex portfolio of strategic projects covering CR‑WASH, water security, the water‑energy nexus, anticipatory action and forecast‑based response.
• Drive technical delivery of the Infectious Disease Prevention & Control (IDPC) Impact at Scale priority, including strategy refinement and country prioritisation.
• Provide remote and in‑country technical support to Technical Advisors, Regional Practice Leads and country program teams.
• Collaborate with Global Specialists, Practice Leads and Health Technical Advisors to promote best practices and technical standards.
• Support high‑impact business development, relationship management and global technical advocacy.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in WASH, climate resilience, and public health programming in humanitarian contexts.
• Proven ability to manage multi‑country portfolios and lead cross‑functional teams.
• Strong analytical and strategic planning skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement abilities.

Required skills

• Technical expertise in CR‑WASH and water‑related disease prevention.
• Knowledge of the water‑energy nexus and anticipatory action frameworks.
• Experience delivering technical support remotely and in‑field.
