Senior Software Engineer – Hardware Test

About the role

Shield AI develops autonomous aerospace systems to protect service members and civilians. The Hardware Test Engineering team builds in‑house electrical and mechanical test equipment for V‑BAT aircraft, ensuring components perform reliably in both normal and harsh environments. As a Senior Software Engineer you will create the software that drives this test infrastructure and integrates results with manufacturing systems.

Key responsibilities

• Architect, design, and develop Python drivers and interfaces for PCBAs, avionics, sensors, and automated test equipment.
• Build automated test frameworks that validate aircraft components across multiple programs, emphasizing scalability and repeatability.
• Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines for continuous integration and automated validation of test‑stand software.
• Develop real‑time monitoring and visualization tools (e.g., Grafana) to provide actionable insights during test execution.
• Automate provisioning and configuration management for rapid deployment of new test stands.
• Lead design and code reviews, promoting modular, observable, and reliable software architecture.
• Collaborate with hardware, systems, and QA teams to embed software capabilities into broader validation workflows.

Required profile

• B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related STEM field.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience developing complex software solutions.
• Demonstrated ownership of project outcomes and ability to deliver high‑quality results.
• Strong teamwork ethic, high personal standards, and a collaborative attitude.

Required skills

• Advanced Python development.
• Linux system administration, Bash scripting, and networking.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated test frameworks.
• Hardware interfacing knowledge (PCBAs, sensors, motors, avionics).
• Development of drivers for electronic test equipment.
