Senior Software Engineer (Expert Software Developer)

About the role

Amentum is looking for an Expert Software Engineer with over 10 years of software development experience, strong cloud and information systems background, and expertise in full-stack development, database design, DevOps and migration of legacy applications to the cloud. The role also involves supporting secure communications systems and working closely with clients.

Key responsibilities

• Lead software development projects from requirements analysis through deployment and maintenance.
• Design and develop software using Python, NodeJS, Angular, JavaScript, C#, SQL Server, Windows Server and Linux.
• Migrate existing systems to the cloud and set up CI/CD pipelines.
• Monitor and troubleshoot systems with Splunk and Grafana/Prometheus, and resolve complex software, performance and infrastructure issues.
• Use Jira and Confluence for agile management, and write technical documentation such as ICDs and operational procedures.
• Reverse engineer legacy codebases, build UML models and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Support secure communications systems, research emerging technologies and recommend improvements.
• Communicate with clients, manage project deliverables and facilitate process working groups.

Required profile

• Over 8 years of hands-on software development experience (10 years preferred).
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, design or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Clearance required: TS/SCI with polygraph.
• Background in on-call support and operational monitoring of critical systems.

Required skills

• At least two programming languages: Python, NodeJS, Angular, JavaScript, C# or SQL.
• Cloud technologies and container orchestration such as EKS/Kubernetes.
• Jira, Confluence, Splunk and diagramming tools.
• Debugging, performance optimization and DevOps practices.
• Preferred: AWS, design systems and component libraries, high-availability systems and secure communications.
