Senior Software Engineer (AI Innovation)

About the role

The Home Depot is hiring a Senior Software Engineer (AI Innovation) in Georgia, working virtually. The engineer independently develops and regularly redesigns or refactors products to meet customers' and associates' needs, within a team of engineers of all experience levels. The role may also involve product and tool selection, security, resilience, performance tuning, production monitoring and mentoring junior engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, test, deploy and maintain software, with a clear understanding of its value, and take on challenging work with urgency and enthusiasm
• Build test suites (functional, destructive, etc.) to support rapid deployment of code to production
• Learn through successful and failed experiments, using formal and informal development channels
• Work in agile teams, collaborate with the Product Team so user stories are valuable, developer-ready, easy to understand and testable, and communicate clearly with different audiences
• Mentor junior engineers by guiding them on modern software development frameworks and leading technical discussions

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a field related to the job
• Preferred: 5+ years of relevant work experience
• No travel required; mostly sitting work in a comfortable indoor setting

Required skills

• Deep experience building AI workflows
• Front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks, preferably an object-oriented language such as Java
• Relational or NoSQL databases, cloud computing, CI/CD tools and modern software design patterns
• Security frameworks for user and service authorization and authentication
• Unit, functional, destructive and performance testing, debugging and root cause analysis
• Version control systems

Pay range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Nevada, New York City, Ithaca (NY), Westchester County (NY) and Washington residents: $80,000 - $180,000.
