Senior Research Scientist – Vision-Language-Action for Robotics

About the role

We are seeking a world‑class Senior Research Scientist to join our Boston R&D hub. You will lead the development of Vision‑Language‑Action (VLA) models that enable robots to perceive, reason, and act in real‑world environments with high generalisation.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and scale VLA models and foundational architectures for robotic manipulation and navigation.
• Develop multi‑modal data collection pipelines, synthetic data generation, and efficient fine‑tuning strategies for large‑scale models.
• Optimize model inference to meet real‑time constraints on robotic platforms without sacrificing reasoning capabilities.
• Publish high‑impact research papers at top conferences such as NeurIPS, CVPR, ICRA, CoRL, etc.
• Collaborate closely with Core Robotics and Hardware teams to integrate AI models into physical robot systems.

Required profile

• PhD or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, or a related field with a focus on deep learning and computer vision.
• Strong publication record with papers in major conferences (NeurIPS, CVPR, ICCV, ICRA, IROS, CoRL).
• Experience working in leading AI research environments.
• Demonstrated ability to bridge large‑scale foundation models with real‑world robotic execution.
• Location‑based availability for our Boston office.

Required skills

• Proficiency with PyTorch or JAX.
• Experience building and fine‑tuning Transformers, Diffusion Models, and Large Language Models (LLMs).
• Deep understanding of Vision‑Language models applied to action/control loops in robotics.
