Senior Research Associate 2 – Ophthalmology Lab

About the role

The University of Miami Bascom Palmer Eye Institute seeks a Senior Research Associate 2 to support advanced ophthalmology research. The role ensures efficient laboratory operations, compliance with regulations, and contributes to high‑impact scientific studies.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct diagnostic microbiology and molecular biology assays, including antimicrobial susceptibility testing and PCR‑based detection of ocular pathogens.
• Prepare next‑generation sequencing (NGS) libraries, perform bacterial genome sequencing, and develop multiplexed diagnostic panels.
• Maintain laboratory inventories, manage -80°C and -20°C storage, and oversee ordering and purchase orders.
• Mentor junior staff and students, supervise training, and present findings at weekly lab meetings.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
• Minimum 1 year of laboratory research experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Required skills

• Antimicrobial susceptibility testing (MIC determination).
• Molecular diagnostics development and validation.
• Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and sub‑typing methods.
• Next‑generation sequencing (NGS) library preparation and data analysis.
