Senior Propulsion Design Engineer – UAV Turbofan

About the role

Shield AI is looking for a Senior Propulsion Design Engineer to lead the development of propulsion hardware for the X‑BAT UAV platform, which uses a low‑bypass turbofan engine. The role covers the full lifecycle from concept layout through production release, test support, and flight operations.

Key responsibilities

• Own design, CAD modeling, and release of propulsion hardware for engine, fuel, oil, and bleed‑air systems.
• Collaborate with machine shops, production teams, and technicians to resolve build issues and drive iterative improvements.
• Support test campaigns by providing hardware design support, instrumentation accommodation, and rapid design iteration.
• Apply engineering analysis (hand calculations, ANSYS, FEA, GFSSP, REFPROP) to validate sizing, load cases, and performance.
• Maintain configuration management, BOM control, and change processes using Teamcenter or equivalent PLM.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or related engineering discipline.
• 5+ years of aerospace hardware design experience, preferably with propulsion systems.
• U.S. citizenship or ability to meet ITAR requirements; ability to obtain a S//SAR security clearance is desired.
• Hands‑on experience working directly with production, technicians, and machine shops.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Siemens NX CAD modeling and GD&T.
• Experience with ANSYS, FEA, GFSSP, and REFPROP for design validation.
• Ability to write Python scripts for design automation or data processing.
• Familiarity with Teamcenter (or similar PLM) for configuration and BOM management.
