Senior Principal Engineer - k0rdent

About the role

Mirantis, an IREN company, is building k0rdent, a Kubernetes-native AI infrastructure platform. As Senior Principal Engineer for k0rdent, you will set the technical direction across Core k0rdent, AI Infrastructure and AI Applications, acting as the most senior individual contributor and technical counterpart to the engineering leadership team. The role is remote.

Key responsibilities

• Define the multi-quarter technical roadmap for k0rdent and ensure the three pillars form a coherent platform
• Lead the design of high-risk, cross-cutting components such as cluster and state management, GPU/AI runtime layers, application serving and observability surfaces
• Set department-wide engineering standards for APIs, testing, observability, performance, security, multi-tenancy and operational readiness
• Mentor Staff and Principal engineers and help calibrate senior IC hiring
• Partner with upstream communities (Kubernetes, CNCF, OpenTelemetry, model-serving runtimes) and with product management and executive leadership
• Represent Mirantis externally with customers, in conferences, standards bodies and technical publications

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or 10 years of related experience
• At least five years in a technical leadership role preferred
• Expert-level knowledge of Kubernetes internals, distributed systems, AI/ML workload runtimes and modern observability
• Proven ability to mentor senior engineers and influence technical direction across teams without direct authority
